What is Additive Manufacturing?
Additive Manufacturing (AM) or Additive Layer Manufacturing (ALM) is the industrial term for production utilizing AM / 3D Printing (3DP) technologies. AM processes allow to create three dimensional (3D) parts directly from digital 3D data. The AM-processes are usually highly automated and create the parts typically layer by layer.
There is a variety of Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes allowing to process materials
from polymers, via metals to ceramics, even living cells can be printed with some technologies.
This is an overview of the seven AM technology groups defined by ASTM.
